Vermicomposting is more popular than ever! Whether you looking for the right worms for a healthy garden, reduce waste, fishing, composting or lawn care, the right worm can make your project successful.
Red Worms: Many times gardeners and farmers focus on the plant themselves, instead of what is going on with the soil. Healthy soil makes healthy plants. If you are making your own compost, red worms are perfect. They don’t tunnel and end up on the bottom while all your scraps are on the top, they are seldom found more than 12 inches below the surface.
European Night Crawlers: Active, durable, and tough, making them excellent for fish bait. They arable to stay on a fishing hook longer, stay alive a very long time underwater (even in brackish water) and stay active longer than other worms. This worm is fantastic for all types of fish, even for ice fishing.
Alabama Jumpers: An excellent addition to any vegetable garden or flower bed. This is the only earthworm that is quite comfortable in sandy soils that has very little organic content. They do not pull their feed into their burrows, but feed on the surface organics and deposit their casts on the surface. They can grow 10 inches in length, making them a great choice for fish bait.
India Blue Worms: Often used for vermicompost in warmer tropical regions. They breed quickly, have a big appetite and reach adulthood in 3 to 5 weeks.
Lawn and Garden Worm Culture: Excellent for organic gardeners. This is a mixture of three species of worms that will adjust to about any climate. The temperature and climate will determine which of the three worms we become dominant.
African Night Crawlers: Prized for being both a great worm for fishing and composting. Heat tolerant and can eat one and a half of its weight in food scraps per day.
