It’s true, you can harvest more delicious vegetables than you can imagine from just a small plot of land or raised garden bed. Yield over 100 pounds of big beautiful tomatoes in a plot as small as 100 square feet. It only takes 24 square feet to grow 20 pounds of carrots.
Super productive gardening is easier than you think
It all starts with the soil. In, fact it is the most important factor for healthy and abundant vegetable and flowers. Organically nutrient rich soil encourages root growth, which are able to absorb more water and nutrients.
Raised garden beds are a great way to grow lots of crops in a limited amount of space. For instance, by staggering your plants in a triangle instead of rows you can accommodate over 10% more plants. But don’t overcrowd the plants, it can result in stressing out the plants and lower yield.
Growing vegetables vertical, on a trellis or fence can maximize the space. It also increased air circulation and also reduce fungal disease.
Mixing compatible vegetables can save space. For instance, squash, beans and corn grow well together. The beans can grow up the sturdy corn stalk while the squash has plenty of room to grow on the ground.
Feed the soil with a quality organic fertilizer. It may be appealing to get the quick results of a chemical based fertilizer, but the benefits are short lived. Organic fertilizer such as black worm castings and VermaPlex are great soil amendments that will contribute to the overall health of the soil.
